Add a chatbot to your site

This guide takes you from nothing to a chatbot on your website that answers visitors' questions from your own content, with links to the pages it used. It's free.

You'll set up two accounts: a Groq account (Groq's AI writes the answers, using your own free key) and a chatbot account at https://chatbot.itshuzaifa.com.

What you need

1. Get a Groq key

  1. Go to https://console.groq.com and sign up (free; Google, GitHub, or email).
  2. Open API Keys → Create API Key. Name it after your site, e.g. my-site-chatbot.
  3. Copy the key now. Groq shows it only once. It starts with gsk_.

Your chatbot's answers count against your own Groq account. On Groq's free plan that's roughly 150 answers a day, shared by everything you use the key for; when it runs out, visitors see a short "busy" message with your fallback link, and it resets the next day.

2. Sign in

Open https://chatbot.itshuzaifa.com/dashboard and choose Sign in with GitHub or Sign in with Google. There's no password to create: your GitHub or Google account proves it's you. If you use the same email on both, either one signs you in to the same account.

3. Add your site

Under Add a site, paste your content source:

Click Add site. You land on your site's page, which has everything that follows. An account can have up to 3 sites.

4. Prove the site is yours

Before anything is fetched from your site, you prove you control it. Your site's page shows a code in two ready-to-copy forms. Add one of them:

Publish your site, then click Check now. It looks at your home page and the file; if it can't find the code, it says exactly where it looked. Keep the tag or file in place afterwards: it's checked again before each nightly update.

Once verified, your domain and its subdomains (like www.your-site.com or blog.your-site.com) can show the chat.

5. Add your Groq key

Paste the key from step 1 into Groq key and click Check and save key. It's checked with Groq first, then stored encrypted. It's never shown again, to you or anyone; to change it, paste a new one.

6. Settings

Fill in what you like; every field has a sensible default.

Field What it does
Site name Shown at the top of the chat
What it answers about e.g. "my work, my projects, and how to hire me". Off-topic questions get a polite no
Greeting The chat's first message
Starter questions One per line; shown as buttons visitors can click
Allowed sites The pages that may show your chat, one per line, like https://your-site.com. Add https://www.your-site.com too if you use it. Anything outside your verified domain is ignored, and the page tells you so
Fallback link text and link Shown when the bot can't help, e.g. "Book a call"
Accent colour The chat's colour
Remember the previous question Lets follow-up questions work ("what about the second one?"), but each answer uses more of your Groq allowance
Pages to crawl, Skip pages under Only when your source is a home page: at most 200 pages, and paths to leave out like /tags/

Click Save settings. Changes reach visitors within five minutes.

7. Index your content

Under Search data, click Re-index now. The status updates by itself: "Queued", then "Indexing…", then "Indexed …: 83 chunks". The first run takes a minute or two.

8. Put the chat on your site

Copy the snippet under Add it to your site and paste it just before </body> on every page that should have the chat (usually your base layout):

<script src="https://chatbot.itshuzaifa.com/s/YOUR-SITE-ID/embed.js" async></script>

A round chat button appears in the bottom corner. Optional extras, added to the same tag:

Attribute Example Does
data-position data-position="left" Puts the button bottom-left
data-color data-color="#7C9CFF" The button's colour (the chat window uses your Accent colour setting)
data-icon data-icon="https://your-site.com/logo.svg" Your logo in the button
data-label data-label="Ask me anything" The button's tooltip

To try it before it's on your site, open https://chatbot.itshuzaifa.com/s/YOUR-SITE-ID/ directly.

9. See what visitors ask

Read what visitors asked on your site's page lists recent chats, grouped by chat window, newest first. The Answers that cited nothing tab is the useful one: those are usually questions your content doesn't cover yet, which tells you what to write next.

Visitors aren't identified (no names, emails, IP addresses, or cookies), chats are deleted after 90 days, and the chat window tells visitors they're saved.

If something's not right

What you see What to do
Check now can't find the code Make sure your site is published with the tag or file, and that the address doesn't redirect to a different domain. Wait a minute if your host caches pages
The chat button doesn't show Check the snippet is on the page, that the page's address is in Allowed sites, and that your domain is verified
"The chatbot is busy right now" Your Groq key hit its daily limit (it resets), or no key is saved
"Not re-indexed: Didn't find this site's code" The verification tag or file was removed; put it back. Your chatbot keeps working on the last indexed content meanwhile
"… over the 2,000-chunk limit" Trim your llms-full.txt, or exclude sections from the crawl with Skip pages under
Answers miss something you know is on your site Re-index after changing content; check the page is in your llms-full.txt or reachable by links from your home page

Deleting

Delete this site… at the bottom of your site's page removes its settings, Groq key, search data, and chats. To delete your account entirely, email khanhuzaifa207@gmail.com.
